These webinars are designed for data analysts who have had some formal or informal training in data analysis. Some data analysts might have formal training in analytics, statistics, or information technology. Other data analysts might have formal training in an area such as business, and have gained some understanding of analytics through on-the-job learning.

A BA's Introduction to the Methods of Business Analytics Using R (Online)

The field of Business Analysis has and is experiencing significant change as the value of methods such as data mining and statistics are being realised. This course is designed as a Business Analyst's first introduction to the methods involved in Business Analytics.

Two versions of this course are currently being offered. This version is a ten-week online course with weekly scheduled webinar presentations and exercises to complete in your own time. The other version (below) is a five-day face-to-face intensive course offered in Brisbane, Australia, with all course seminars and practicals covered in the scheduled hours.

This course is worth 20 points toward IIBA Personal Development hours or Continuing Development Units. You do not need to be an IIBA member to register for this course.

Dates and Times

This course will taught as a ten week course where in each week there will be a two-hour webinar, homework to be done between webinars, and a dedicated LinkedIn Group set up solely for discussion throughout this course. Each webinar will be recorded and participants will be able to view all recorded webinars up until two weeks after the final webinar.

This course will taught over the following dates:

  • Weeks 1-5: Monday, 7 May 2018 to Friday, 8 June 2018
  • Week 6: Monday, 18 Jun 2018 to Friday, 22 June 2018

3. Business Analytics – Setting Objectives for Analytics within a Business (What are we trying to accomplish?)

After deciding that business analytics is a worthwhile endeavour for a company, the next decision is which project to undertake. There may be many areas of the business that could be improved or there may not be any distinct problems. Deciding which project to focus on and where to start is the hardest part of any project and these decisions need to be made by you, the manager or executive. Once a target area has been identified and a core question to focus on has been constructed then project can be undertaken by someone else internal or external to the company. 1. A Gentle Introduction to Statistics in SPSS and R (Perth, AU)

For many people the field of statistics can be incredibly daunting. This workshop is designed as a gentle introduction to the field of statistics, where absolutely no prior knowledge of statistics is assumed. Workshop participants will also be introduced to two of the most popular statistical software packages, SPSS and R (participants can choose which package they would like to use during individual hands-on exercises throughout the workshop).

This workshop is intended for non-statisticians wishing to develop a solid foundation in the use of these techniques. No prior knowledge of statistics is assumed. Participants will also be introduced to SPSS and R, where no prior knowledge of these software packages is also assumed.
