About Us

Insight Business Management, Analytics & Market Research is a major Division of Insight Research Services Associated. Insight was established in June 2011 by Dr Mark Griffin, following a long career as a data scientist in academia. Insight’s motto is ‘obtaining data insights for making the best business decisions’.

We are passionate about delivering true value in data science to our clients and business partners, and have identified a corresponding set of objectives in meeting that mission.

 

Firstly we believe that data science is the intersection of four key areas of expertise:

  • Statistics – a true leader in data science needs to not just use the methods of data science but has a solid mathematical understanding of these methods. At Insight we don’t just seek this understanding for ourselves, but we share this understanding with our clients through our training and consulting projects.

  • Information technology – where this relates both to the specific methods of machine learning, but also to the wide variety of disciplines that support data science (such as software development, computer network management, and cybersecurity). At Insight we work closely with Microsoft in providing these services, and also teach information technology through a Registered Training Organization.

  • Business strategy – data science involves more than simply the analysis of data, it involves developing a clear business strategy for how to obtain the most value out of data and for how to grow the capacity and capability for data science within organizations. At Insight we work closely with the International Institute of Business Analysis so that we can both grow in our thinking and contributions to business strategy.

  • Subject matter expertise – truly understanding data means more than just seeing data as a series of numbers, it means also understanding what different datasets means to stakeholders from the widest variety of disciplines and perspectives. At Insight we work closely with a wide variety of professional societies to gain this real-world learning (including the Australian Evaluation Society, and Engineers Australia). We also provide regular training through a Registered Training Organization in these different disciplines so that we can provide greater contributions to our clients and business partners, and also gain a deeper understanding ourselves of these disciplines.

 

Secondly we believe that a leading data science company focuses on a few key activities

  • Training – any leading company strives for continuous improvement in their knowledge, expertise, and understanding. At Insight we are enthusiastic about growing our own expertise, and in working closely with our clients and business partners for mutual learning.

  • Consulting – Insight works closely to meet the needs and interests of our clients and business partners. This comes from not just hearing about our clients’ needs, but in proactively seeking to understand the motivations and objectives behind a clients’ requests.

  • Research – data science is about infinitely more than using half-a-dozen standard statistical methods in every client project. Data science is all about a rapid evolution of our understanding of data and methodologies, and hence by nature is an active research field. Insight has a strong foundation within the university sector, and active program of research projects.

  • Community engagement – any leading company is actively involved in the cutting-edge of thinking, perspectives and attitudes of their professional community. At Insight we are actively involved in a number of professional societies to establish and engage in leading network opportunities with the Australian and international community.
